Seeding Ground Along the Etowah
Hydroseeding in Canton happens in a city split by a river. The Etowah River flows east to west through the center of town, and Canton sits in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. That combination of hills and a big river makes erosion control a regular part of every grading job here.
A mill town that kept growing
Canton was known for Canton Denim, made at the Canton Cotton Mills until they closed in 1981. Since then the city has grown with the northern suburbs, and its population nearly tripled between 2000 and 2010. Much of that growth landed on hills and old farm fields that now need lawns.
Riverbank and floodplain work
Lots near the Etowah and its tributaries need sediment control before grading starts. We put silt fence on the low side, keep work areas small, and get final cover down fast. On banks that see moving water, erosion control blankets and a deep-rooted seed mix do more than lawn grass ever will.
Foothill slopes
The ground climbs quickly away from the river. New homes cut into those hills leave steep side and rear yards, which get hydromulch with tackifier, or bonded fiber matrix where the slope is too steep for loose mulch.
Reservoir country
The Hickory Log Creek reservoir, shared by Canton and the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority, was finished in 2007. Keeping soil out of streams that feed drinking water is one more reason to take silt fence and fast seeding seriously around Canton.

Canton Questions
My lot is near the Etowah. What has to happen before grading?
Silt fence on the downhill side and a plan to keep bare soil small. Then we grade in stages and seed each stage right away.
How do you protect a riverbank?
Blankets pinned to the bank with a deep-rooted seed mix. Lawn grass alone is too shallow to hold a bank that sees moving water.
My side yard is too steep to walk on. Can it be seeded?
Yes. Bonded fiber matrix or blankets hold seed on steep ground; we pick a low-mow mix so you are not mowing a cliff.
Do you work for builders in Canton subdivisions?
Yes, including silt fence, inlet protection and closing out lots with hydroseed.
Is red clay a problem for new grass here?
It can be. We loosen compacted clay and add topsoil where needed so roots can get down.
